The Toronto Blue Jays will send their ace to the hill tonight as the club aims for a sweep of its three-game interleague series with the Washington Nationals at Rogers Centre. Former Cy Young winner Roy Halladay looks to duplicate the outstanding pitching efforts by Toronto's starters in the first two games of this set. After A.J. Burnett fired a six-hit shutout in Tuesday's opener, Ted Lilly went out and blanked the Nationals over six innings to lead the Jays to a 6-1 victory on Wednesday. Lilly (8-7) scattered five hits and walked just two batters while striking out six to win his third consecutive start. The left-hander received plenty of offensive support from Frank Catalanotto, who finished 3-for-5 and knocked in three runs. |
Playing in his final Wimbledon tournament, 36-year-old American icon Andre Agassi moved into the round of 32 Thursday at the venerable All England Club, where he will battle Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal, who survived a Day-4 scare here. The second-seeded Nadal was two points away from defeat against 237th-ranked American Robert Kendrick, but the two-time French Open champion came from behind to post a 6-7 (4-7), 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5, 6-4 victory on the storied Centre Court. The game Kendrick was playing in only his second ATP-level event of the year. The 20-year-old Nadal converted on his third match point against the 26-year-old Kendrick after 3 hours, 41 minutes of tennis. |
